Silence is Not a Strategy: Why Communication Still Fails in Bridgewater

Mayor Mitchell and Bridgewater Police rely on method ruled insufficient in the Mass Casualty Commission.

People in Bridgewater and area are PISSED. Rightfully so, and so are we GO Rock.

The Shadow of Portapique

It has been six years since the 2020 Portapique tragedy changed Nova Scotia forever. The single biggest lesson from that "horror show" was the critical need for immediate, widespread emergency alerts. We were told the systems were fixed. We were told the communication gaps were closed.

When a "Lockdown" is called at our regional hospital, the silence from the official alert systems is louder than any siren.

There are days when being a "local" station is about celebrating our community, but today is about a breakdown in the systems meant to protect it. The South Shore Regional Hospital was behind locked doors and K-9 units are scouring the woods near Glen Allan for a dangerous individual. Yet, for many of our neighbours, the only way they found out was by "happening" to see a post on a social media feed. Frankly, that is pathetic.

The Lessons We Were Promised

It has been six years since the Portapique tragedy. The Mass Casualty Commission was explicit in its findings: Nova Scotians cannot and should not have to rely on social media algorithms to know if there is a threat in their backyard. The recommendation was clear. Use the Alert Ready system to reach every phone, every radio, and every household the moment a dangerous person is at large.

Instead, today we saw a return to the "status quo." A post was made to a police Facebook page while a man considered a threat to the public was walking out of a hospital at 2:45 p.m. If you weren't scrolling at that exact moment, you were in the dark. In a community where we look out for one another, being "left in the dark" isn't just an inconvenience, it’s a safety risk.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Breaking the Silence

We fought for the licence for 107.9 because we believed we can make a difference with local ownership. Whether it's a local power outage or a public safety threat that isn't being properly communicated, we’re committed to being the independent source that brings the facts home to our corner of Nova Scotia.

The Notification Policy: We understand that your phone is already full of noise. Because of that, Go Rock will not send mobile alerts or interrupts unless it is a matter of genuine importance. We aren't here to spam you; we are here to fill the gap when the official channels fail to act. If Bridgewater Police to refuse send an alert, GO ROCK WILL. Get our app now at gorock.ca/app

The Independent Voice: We don’t have to wait for a corporate head office in another province to tell us what to say. We see the K-9 units on the side of the road. Our independence allows us to prioritize your safety over "following procedure" that hasn't worked in the past.

The Reliable Anchor: When the official word is slow or buried on a social media wall, we aim to be the steady voice you can turn to. We’re here to provide the facts without the fluff, ensuring that Lunenburg County isn't waiting on a "refresh" button for life-saving information.

Here at GO Rock, we wanted to get to the bottom of this.

According to Eric Whynot, a Bridgewater Town Councillor, when asked whether the Bridgewater Police requested an alert, he said: “…it did not meet the criteria for the alert. A media release will be out on the situation shortly.” We will post this if we receive it from the Town as that is fair.

For full disclosure, Mr. Whynot is also the General Manager of the Irving Family owned stations in the area, including CKBW and Country 100.7, who are our competitors. GO Rock is locally owned by me, the writer of this blog.

As of last night, April 1, 2026, humanity is officially on its way back to the Moon, and for the first time ever, a Canadian is leading the charge.

The Mission: Humanity’s First Return in 50 Years

At 6:35 p.m. last night, the Artemis II mission roared off the launchpad from the Kennedy Space Center. Onboard the Orion spacecraft are four astronauts, including Colonel Jeremy Hansen. He is the first Canadian and first non-American to ever leave Earth's orbit for deep space.

This isn't just a "test flight." Artemis II is a 10-day journey that will take the crew over 400,000 kilometres from home. They aren't landing just yet; they are performing a high-stakes "free-return" flyby. They will loop around the far side of the Moon, using lunar gravity to slingshot them back toward Earth. It is the farthest any human being has ever travelled from our planet, and it's happening right now.

What Makes This an Accomplishment?

For those who feel the Moon is "old news," it’s important to understand the scale of what Jeremy Hansen and his crew are doing:

The "Safety First" Rehearsal: Since 1972, no human has ventured beyond low Earth orbit. Artemis II is proving that new technology, the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion capsule, can actually keep humans alive in the harsh radiation of deep space.

The Canadian Seat: Canada is only the second country in history to send an astronaut to the Moon. We didn't get this seat by accident; we earned it through decades of world-class robotics and innovation (like the Canadarm).

The Record Breaker: By the time they swing around the dark side of the Moon, this crew will have travelled further into the cosmos than the Apollo astronauts ever did.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Talking Space

We fought for the licence for 107.9 because we believed the South Shore deserved a station that actually speaks our language. Whether it's a local power outage or a Canadian astronaut making history, we’re committed to being the independent and locally owned source that brings the world home to our corner of Nova Scotia.

The "Reliable Anchor" Mentality: In a world that often feels divided, seeing a Canadian flag on a space suit headed for the Moon is a rare moment of pure, collective pride. As your independent local voice, our job is to be the reliable source that brings these massive milestones home to Lunenburg County.

Independent Strength: Our station was built on the idea that you don't have to be a corporate giant to make an impact. Watching Jeremy Hansen, a Canadian from a "middle power" nation, take his place among the stars is a reminder that independence and hard work can take you anywhere.

The "Work-Hard" Connection: Space exploration isn't about luck; it's about decades of discipline. That’s a value we understand well here in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, and Mahone Bay. Whether you’re building a boat, running a farm, or launching a rocket, the commitment to the craft is the same.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Over the next 10 days, the crew will be testing life-support systems and manual piloting as they prepare for the eventual lunar landing in 2028. Our request to the Go Rock crew is simple: Look up tonight. When you see the Moon over the LaHave River, remember that there is a Canadian up there, looking back at us. It’s a reminder that while the world changes fast, the human drive to explore and reach for something better is permanent.

We’re going to keep the music playing, but today, every power chord feels a little more "stratospheric." We are proud to be your independent voice, and today, we are incredibly proud of Team Canada.

Stay inspired, look out for your neighbours, and keep it tuned to the heart of the South Shore.

The Most Talked-About Empty Building in Lunenburg: What is the Imagination Gallery?

In a town like Lunenburg, we’re used to world-class art. We have the galleries on Lincoln Street, the vibrant colours of the waterfront, and a community of creators that is second to none. But this week, something has opened that is causing a stir from the Dory Shop to the Academy, and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen on the South Shore.

It’s called the Imagination Gallery, and if you’ve walked past it, you might be wondering if they forgot to move the furniture in.

The Art of… Nothing?

The concept is as bold as it is strange. The Imagination Gallery offers "thoughtfully empty rooms" curated to allow a personal connection with the world’s greatest masterpieces.

This week, for their grand opening, they are "featuring" the Mona Lisa and Michelangelo’s David. The catch? There is no paint, no marble, and no glass barriers. You are invited to stand in a quiet, white-walled room and simply… imagine them.

The gallery claims this offers an experience with no crowds and no distractions. Guests have already started sharing their feedback, with some calling it "life-changing" and others describing it as "surprisingly quiet." It’s a place where the art is exactly as you picture it, because, well, you’re the one doing the work.

Why Is This Trending in Lunenburg?

In a town that prides itself on its history and its tangible, "Bluenose" work ethic, a gallery that sells "imagination" is bound to get people talking at the coffee shops.

The Price Tag: Admission is listed at $25… or "whatever you imagine is fair."

The Experience: In a world where we are constantly glued to screens and bombarded by noise, the idea of a space that is intentionally empty is a fascinating, if bizarre, social experiment.

The Go Rock Perspective: Why We’re Diving In

You might wonder why 107.9 Go Rock is talking about an empty art gallery.

The reason is that our station is built on the same independent spirit that makes a project like this possible.

Independent Thinking: We started Go Rock because we wanted to offer something that didn't exist, a local, independent voice that wasn't just a carbon copy of "Head Office" radio. The Imagination Gallery is certainly independent, and it’s definitely not a carbon copy of anything else.

The Reliable Anchor: Part of being your "Reliable Anchor" on the South Shore is keeping you in the loop on the stories that have everyone talking. Whether it’s a major safety recall or a strange new business opening its doors, we want to make sure you have the facts (even if the "facts" in this case are invisible).

Community Connection: We live here too. We walk these same streets, and we share the same curiosity about the people who choose to make Lunenburg County their home. We celebrate the "Work-Hard" lifestyle, but we also appreciate a bit of creative thinking, even if it's a little "out there."

How to Get Your "Pass"

If you’re curious enough to see (or not see) it for yourself, we’ve teamed up with the gallery for a special offer. You can get an Imaginary Free Entry Pass right now at our website.

Just head over to https://www.gorock.ca/gallery/ to claim yours.

Whether you think it’s a brilliant piece of performance art or just a very quiet room, it’s proof that there’s never a dull moment on the South Shore.

Stay curious, look out for your neighbours, and keep it tuned to the heart of the South Shore.

Marking the Day: What You Need to Know About the Transgender Day of Visibility

When a global topic starts trending in our town, it’s often because people are looking for a clear understanding of what’s happening and why. Today, March 31, 2026, is International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a day that is being talked about in Bridgewater and across the South Shore.

In a community where we value being informed and looking out for our neighbours, it helps to stick to the facts about why this day exists.

The Origin and Purpose

TDOV was founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall, a US-based activist and psychotherapist. Unlike the Transgender Day of Remembrance in November, which is a somber day dedicated to memorializing those lost to violence, TDOV was created to be a day of recognition for the living.

Its primary goals are:

Celebrating Contributions: Highlighting the achievements of transgender and gender-diverse people in society, from local business owners to artists and healthcare workers.

Raising Awareness: Providing information about the specific challenges and discrimination many in the community continue to face in housing, employment, and healthcare

Education: Offering a starting point for those who want to understand terminology, the importance of correct pronouns, and the legal protections currently in place.

The Legal Reality in Nova Scotia

For those of us living in Lunenburg County, this isn't just a social media trend; it’s a matter of provincial law. Under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act, gender identity and gender expression are protected characteristics. This means that in our province, people are legally protected from discrimination in areas like:

Employment: Being hired or treated fairly at work.

Housing: Renting or buying a home without bias.

Public Services: Accessing businesses, restaurants, and government offices safely.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Covering the Facts

You might wonder why an independent rock station is pausing to explain a global awareness day.

The reason is simple: Because it's our job:

Community Focus: We live on these same streets. We know that our audience values honesty and a "tell it like it is" perspective. We aren't here to tell you what to think; we’re here to ensure you have the information you need to be an informed member of the South Shore.

Independent Strength: Our station was built on the idea that local voices matter. Whether we are discussing new infrastructure, safety recalls, or cultural markers like TDOV, we do it because we aren't bound by a corporate script from out of the province. We answer to you.

At Go Rock, we don't care what you look like, we care about you as a person.

In our corner of the world, we rely on each other for more than just the weather report. We count on local businesses and brands to be part of our daily lives, and when a household name like Farmers faces a safety issue, the priority shifts from playing the hits to looking out for our neighbours.

The Details: Glass Contamination in Farmers Milk

Agropur has issued a voluntary recall for several milk products produced at their Bedford facility. This isn't about an off-taste or a fridge life issue, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has warned that these specific cartons may contain pieces of glass.

If you picked up milk recently at the Atlantic Superstore in Bridgewater or a local shop in Mahone Bay, you need to check the side of the carton. The focus is specifically on 2-litre cartons from Farmers, Natrel, and Québon with specific "Best Before" dates.

The "Watch List" for Your Kitchen

Look for Plant 3702 near the date. If you see it, compare your carton to these high-risk codes:

Farmers 1%, 2%, and 3.25% (2L): Dates ranging from March 24 to April 10.

Farmers Chocolate Milk (2L): Dates of March 26, April 1, 2, and 15.

Natrel 1% Lactose-Free Chocolate (2L): This national recall includes several dates stretching through May 15.

The Go Rock Commitment: More Than Just Music

You might wonder why an independent rock station is pivoting from power chords to dairy safety.

The reason is straightforward: Our frequency belongs to this community. When we secured the licence for 107.9, we did it because we were tired of Halifax-based stations treating the South Shore like an afterthought. Being a "Reliable Anchor" means showing up when things get complicated. We don't just broadcast to Lunenburg County; we are locally owned. If there's a risk to your breakfast table, we’re going to be the first to tell you.

If your milk is on the list, do not open it. You can return it to the point of purchase for a full refund or simply dispose of it.

At 107.9 Go Rock, our content is built on the idea that local independence matters. Whether we’re fighting for your right to have a station that actually knows where New Germany is, or providing updates during a regional emergency, our goal is to be the voice you trust when the "big city" stations aren't looking. We’ve moved past the days of just surviving; we’re here to ensure our community thrives, stays informed, and stays safe.

We’re keeping our eyes on the local news that matters most to you.

Stay safe, verify those cartons, and keep it tuned to the heart of the South Shore.

When news of this magnitude breaks, especially involving a name as familiar as Air Canada, it doesn’t just stay in the international headlines; it sits with us here in Lunenburg County.

What Happened: Flight AC8646

Late last night, Air Canada Express Flight 8646, operated by Nova Scotia headquartered Jazz Aviation, was completing its trip from Montreal to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. As the Bombardier CRJ-900 touched down on Runway 4, it collided with an airport fire-and-rescue vehicle.

The details are heartbreaking. The collision killed both the pilot and the co-pilot. Two professionals based right here in Canada. Over 40 people were taken to hospital, and while most have been released, several passengers remain in serious condition. This wasn't a mechanical failure in the sky; it was a tragic collision on the ground during the final seconds of the flight.

How Does This Happen?

Many of you are searching for answers today, asking how two vehicles can end up on the same runway at the same time. While the NTSB is just beginning its investigation, early reports and air traffic control recordings point to a perfect storm of events:

The Secondary Incident: The fire truck was crossing the runway to respond to a separate emergency—a United Airlines flight that had reported a strange odour and ill flight attendants.

The Communication Gap: Recordings reveal a frantic moments in the tower. A controller cleared the truck to cross, but realizing the Air Canada jet was landing, began shouting, "Stop, Truck 1! Stop!" repeated ten times.

The Impact: It was too late. The plane, slowing down but still at high speed, struck the truck. The nose of the aircraft was sheared off, leaving the cockpit destroyed.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Mentioning this?

You might wonder why an independent station on the South Shore is focusing so heavily on a crash in New York.

The answer is simple: Air Canada Jazz home base is in Nova Scotia.

The Canadian Connection: These were our pilots. This was our national carrier. Whether you’ve flown that Montreal-to-NYC route yourself or have family who works in aviation, this hits home.

The Reliable Anchor: In moments of crisis, rumours fly fast. We aren't here to sensationalize a tragedy; we’re here to help our community process it with the facts.

If this news has you feeling anxious about upcoming travel or just heavy-hearted, don't carry that alone. Talk to your neighbours. Small towns are at their best when we circle the wagons around each other.

We’re going to keep the music playing, but today, every song carries a little more weight. We are proud to be your independent voice, and today, we stand with everyone impacted by Flight 8646.

The Passing of a Legend

As many of you have heard, the legendary Chuck Norris has passed away at the age of 86. His family confirmed that he died peacefully on Thursday morning, surrounded by his loved ones in Hawaii.

To the world, he was the undefeated karate champion, the Walker, Texas Ranger star, and the face of a thousand action movies. But for many of us here in Lunenburg County, he was something more: he was the ultimate symbol of reliability. Whether he was taking on Bruce Lee or cleaning up the streets of Dallas, you always knew how the story would end, with the good guy standing tall.

Humour as a Shield: The Top 10 "Chuck Norris Facts"

You might wonder why people are currently flooding the internet with jokes after such sad news. It’s because Chuck Norris jokes were never meant to mock him; they were a way for us to process a world that often feels chaotic and unfair. We created a "superhero" because sometimes, the real world does terrible things that we can't explain. Humour became our way of reclaiming some of that power.

In honour of the man who once "levelled up" for his birthday, here are the top 10 jokes circulating in Lunenburg County and beyond today:

Death once had a "near-Chuck-Norris" experience.

Chuck Norris doesn’t wear a watch. He decides what time it is.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris can build a snowman out of rain.

Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked a coal mine and turned it into a diamond mine.

The dinosaurs looked at Chuck Norris the wrong way once. You know what happened to them.

Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

If you spell Chuck Norris in Scrabble, you win. Forever.

Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups. He pushes the Earth down.

Chuck Norris is the reason Waldo is hiding.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Talking Chuck
You might wonder why an independent rock station talking about a Hollywood icon.

The answer is simple: Because he's Chuck Norris!

The Story: A Breach of Trust

As many of you have seen trending online, Joseph Garrett Duggar, formerly of the "19 Kids and Counting" reality series, was arrested Wednesday in Florida. The details released by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office are deeply disturbing: allegations of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a child during a 2020 family vacation.

The victim, now 15, disclosed incidents involving Duggar from when she was just nine years old. While the sheriff’s office notes an apology was reportedly given by the accused afterward, it does nothing to lessen the gravity of the charges. For a family that built a global brand on "traditional values," this arrest is a massive, public breach of trust that has people across the South Shore asking: How does this happen?

Why We Talk About the Hard Stuff

You might wonder why 107.9 Go Rock, an independent station known for high-energy rock and local pride, is pausing to talk about a reality TV star’s legal troubles in Florida.

The answer is simple: It's important.

The Priority of Care: Whether it’s a school in Bridgewater or a family vacation in Panama City, the safety of our kids is the one thing that connects us all.
This is a reminder that real "values" aren't found on a reality TV show, they're found in the way we protect and respect each other right here at home.

A Threat Beyond the Headlines

As many of you have heard through the Bridgewater Police Service and the RCMP, a 15-year-old from our community is facing very serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder. This wasn’t just a localized incident; it involved an investigation that stretched from the FBI and INTERPOL to a youth in Manitoba.

The details are chilling: a discussed plan for a violent attack at Park View Education Centre.

If you’ve stepped outside in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, or Mahone Bay today, you’ve likely seen a lot more green than usual. While it’s easy to dismiss St. Patrick’s Day as just an excuse for a festive pint, there is a deep history behind the holiday that explains why it has become such a massive cultural moment, especially here in Atlantic Canada.

The Man Behind the Myth

Despite being the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick wasn’t actually Irish. He was born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century. At 16, he was kidnapped by raiders and spent six years as an enslaved shepherd in Ireland.

After escaping and returning home, he had a vision that called him back to the very place where he had been held captive. He spent the rest of his life as a missionary, famously using the three-leaf shamrock to explain complex ideas to the local people. By the time he died on March 17, 461, he had fundamentally changed the social and spiritual fabric of the island.

The Atlantic Connection

Why is this trending so heavily in Nova Scotia? Because for us, this isn't just "somebody else’s holiday." About 15% of Canadians have Irish roots, and in Lunenburg County, that connection is woven into our history along with the Scots, the Germans, and First Nations.

When Irish immigrants moved to the South Shore, they brought their music, their storytelling, and their "St. Patrick's Day Feast" with them. Over time, it evolved from a quiet religious day into a celebration of heritage that everyone, regardless of their background could join. It’s a day where the "Emerald Isle" meets the "Bluenose Coast."

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Turning Green (Wait, our logo is green already...)

You might wonder why an independent rock station is diving into 5th-century history. It’s because the story of St. Patrick, and the celebration of his legacy, is a perfect reflection of what we do every day:

Reliable Connection: Just as St. Patrick became a steady voice for a community looking for direction, 107.9 Go Rock is your reliable voice

Independent Identity: We are the only locally owned station in the County. We don't take orders from a corporate desk out of the Province. Much like the small, local pubs that are the heart of St. Paddy's Day, we thrive because we are part of the community, not just a broadcast coming into it.

Resilience in Action: St. Patrick’s story is one of someone who faced incredible hardship, found his purpose, and came back stronger to serve others. That’s the same spirit we see in our local business owners and our neighbours every day. We’ve moved from "survival mode" into "thrive mode," and today is a day to celebrate that strength.

So, whether you’re wearing a shamrock or just enjoying the energy in town, remember that today is about more than just a colour. It’s about the spirit of a community that looks out for its own.

Stay connected, enjoy the music, and keep it tuned to 107.9 Go Rock.

The Silver Paradox: Why Canada’s Para Hockey Run is a Victory!

If you’ve been scrolling through social media or chatting at work today, you’ve likely seen the buzz about the WBC (World Baseball Classic) and the Paralympics. But one headline is sparking a deeper conversation: Team Canada’s silver medal in Para Ice Hockey.

Yesterday in Italy, our Canadian squad fell 6-2 to the United States in a hard-fought gold medal final. While a loss is never the goal, there is a fascinating bit of sports psychology trending right now that perfectly explains why what we just witnessed was actually an incredible achievement.

Win the Gold, Win the Bronze. But "Lose" the Silver?

There’s a long-standing theory in sports that the silver medal is the hardest one to wear. Think about it:

The Gold Medalist wins their final game and stands on top.

The Bronze Medalist wins their final game to secure a spot on the podium.

The Silver Medalist, however, has to stand on that podium immediately after a loss.

Psychologists call this "counterfactual thinking". The "what ifs" and "if onlys." I see it differently. We know that to even be in the position to "lose" a gold medal game, you have to be the second-best team on the entire planet. Team Canada faced the American powerhouse, a team that has now won five straight golds, and they didn't back down. They pushed, they battled, and they earned that silver through years of preparation.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Talking About This!

You might wonder why an independent rock station is diving into the psychology of Olympic medals. It’s because the story of this silver medal is the story of our business and our community.

Independent Perspective: Just like Team Canada taking on the massive U.S. program, 107.9 Go Rock is the independent local choice taking on a corporate giant. We have the heart and the local focus that keeps us in the game every single day.

Reliability Over "Perfection": This silver medal represents a standard of excellence. It proves that Team Canada is a reliable force in world hockey. At Go Rock, that’s our goal too.

The "Second Wind" Mentality: Much like our community found its "second wind" after the challenges of the last six years, this team will take this silver, learn from it, and come back even stronger. We don't just celebrate the wins; we celebrate the commitment to showing up and competing at the highest level.

So, when you see those "silver" headlines today, don't think of it as a loss. Think of it as a testament to being one of the best in the world. We’re proud of Team Canada, and we’re proud to be the voice that brings these stories home to the South Shore.

Stay proud, stay focused, and keep it tuned to 107.9 Go Rock.

We all remember the confusion, the quiet streets in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, and Mahone Bay. There was sudden uncertainty about when we’d see our neighbours again.

As we look back today in 2026, the conversation in Lunenburg County isn't about what we lost; it’s about how we’ve evolved.
Six years ago, I was sitting at the kitchen table listening to the radio and realized something frustrating. Almost everything I was hearing was about how COVID was impacting the HRM.

At the time, a lot of rock fans here in Lunenburg County were tuned into the big rock station in Halifax because they loved rock music. It was clear that station didn't care about life on the South Shore. When the world changed six years ago, we saw just how big that gap was. From county to county, the rules and the news were changing fast, but that certain Halifax station couldn't have cared less about what was happening outside the city limits.

As someone who lives in Lunenburg County, that really bothered me. I knew our community deserved a voice that actually understood the local reality, not one that treated us like an afterthought if at all. A ROCK STATION TO CALL OUR OWN!

I decided to change that. I put in the work, paid for the research to prove my point, fought against the Irving Family Trust (TWICE) who wanted to prevent GO Rock from competing with them, secured the license for 107.9, and started GO Rock. I didn't just want to build a radio station; I wanted to build a reliable rock station for the people who live, work, and drive these roads every day who don't like oldies or country music.

Now it's 2026 we are helping ensure people here who like Rock will have something for them!

If you’ve been scrolling through social media in Bridgewater lately, you’ve likely seen the WBC trending. While baseball isn't always the first thing we think of in March, the 2026 World Baseball Classic has turned into a series of "did that really just happen?" moments that are catching the eyes of even the casual fans here in the County.

The World is Stunned: Italy’s Big Statement

The biggest shocker of the tournament happened just hours ago when Italy, a team few picked to go deep, beat the star-studded United States roster with an 8-6 win.

This wasn't just a lucky break; it was a dominant performance. Italy jumped out to an 8-0 lead against a U.S. team filled with All-Stars and MVPs like Aaron Judge. While the Americans mounted a late comeback, the Italians held firm, proving that a unified team with a clear plan can take down the biggest names in the game.

The "North of 49" Breakthrough

For us here in Nova Scotia, the even bigger news is Team Canada. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the Canadians have advanced to the quarter-finals. After a clutch 7-2 win over Cuba, Canada didn't just move on, they won their pool.

This sets up a massive showdown this Friday: Canada vs. USA in a knockout game. For the South Shore, this is more than just a game; it’s a chance to see our national team prove they belong among the world's best.

Why We’re Watching

You might wonder why 107.9 Go Rock is tracking batting averages and pitch counts. It’s because our station is built on the same principles we're seeing on the diamond right now:

The Local Advantage: Much like Team Canada, we are a home-grown team. We don’t have a billion-dollar family backing our radio station, but we have the local heart and the focus on our community that the big guys can’t replicate.

Resilience in Action: Seeing these "underdog" teams stay composed and execute under pressure is exactly the kind of energy we bring to our morning shows and our community reporting. We celebrate the people who show up and get the job done, regardless of the odds.

Authentic Coverage: We know you're searching for these scores because you care about seeing the "little guy" win. Our goal is to be the most reliable source for the stories that matter to you, whether it's the local power grid or a historic Canadian win on the world stage.

Whether you're a die-hard baseball fan or just love seeing Canada beat the odds, this weekend is going to be electric. We'll be keeping you updated about the WBC.

Stay sharp, cheer loud for the Canadians, and keep it tuned to the only independent voice in Lunenburg County.

Small Town, Big Brains: Help Lunenburg’s "PIEMunchers" Take on Canada

If you’ve been scrolling through local Facebook groups in Bridgewater or Lunenburg this week, you’ve likely seen a name that’s hard to forget: The PIEMunchers.

This isn't a new bakery in Lunenburg. It’s a team of four brilliant Grade 4 students from Bluenose Academy who have done something no one saw coming. In their very first year of LEGO Robotics, these kids didn't just compete; they won the Provincial Championship at Acadia University, beating out teams much older than them. Now, they have a chance to represent the South Shore on the national stage, and they need our help to get there.

The Road to the Canada Cup

These young innovators designed, built, and programmed a robot to solve complex archaeological challenges. Because of their victory, they’ve been invited to the Canada Cup of Robotics at Brock University in Ontario this June.

But as any parent in Lunenburg County knows, "national stage" usually comes with a "national price tag." Between registration fees, specialized equipment, and travel from Nova Scotia to Niagara Falls, the team needs to raise $12,000 CAD.

Why This Matters for the South Shore

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities aren't always easy to find in rural Nova Scotia. We’re a province of builders, fishers, and fixers, these kids are the next generation of awesome. They are proving that you don't need to be from a big city to be a tech champion. You just need a solid team, a good idea, and a community that has your back.

Why Go Rock is Behind the PIEMunchers

You might wonder why GO Rock is sounding the alarm for a robotics team. It’s because our station is built on the same values these kids are showing:

Independent Spirit: As the only locally owned station in the county, we know what it’s like to be the "small team" taking on the giants. The PIEMunchers are the ultimate underdogs, and we love an underdog story.

Investing in Our Own: By supporting these students, we are investing in the future leaders, engineers, and maybe even the future business owners of the South Shore.

How You Can Help

The Paralympics are officially in full swing, and while the distance from the South Shore to Milano/Cortina is vast, the spirit of these games is hitting home right here.

The "Unbreakable" Standard

The Paralympics have always been about more than just sport; they are a masterclass in human resilience. This year, we are seeing records shattered by 612 athletes from 55 nations, including a strong Canadian contingent that has already secured six medals in just the first three days of competition.

From the high-speed "Super-G" races on the slopes of Cortina to the tactical precision of wheelchair curling (DID YOU SEE THAT SHOT CANADA MADE SUNDAY!!??), these athletes aren't just "overcoming" challenges, they are redefining what the human body is capable of.

The Local Connection: Nova Scotia’s Own

The reason "Paralympics" is trending in our local searches today isn't just global curiosity, it’s provincial pride. Nova Scotia’s own Emma Archibald (Fall River) made her Paralympic debut this week in Para Nordic skiing. Watching one of our own compete on the world stage reminds everyone in Lunenburg County that "grit" is a Maritime export.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is All-In on the Paralympics

You might wonder why an independent rock station is dedicating airtime to the Paralympics in our sports coverage. It's because the Para-athletes are awesome and they deserve coverage. GO Rock is built on the exact same values these athletes live by every day.

At 107.9 Go Rock, we celebrate the "Work-Hard" lifestyle. There is no better example of that than a Para-athlete who spends years training for a single 60-second run down a mountain. They represent the ultimate "No-Excuses" mentality.

Independent Excellence: As an independent station, we know what it’s like to compete against the giants. The Paralympics remind us that you don't need the biggest corporate machine behind you to be world-class; you need heart, discipline, and a community that has your back.

The Paralympics show us that the only real limits are the ones we place on ourselves. As the Games continue through March 15th, we’ll be keeping you updated on the stories that come from this years event.

Stay inspired, stay gritty, and keep it tuned to the only independent voice in Lunenburg County. GO Rock!

What Britney Spears’ Arrest Reminds the South Shore

Remember Britney Spears? The pop icon is trending across Lunenburg County after news broke of her DUI arrest in California on Wednesday night.

While it’s easy to look at a headline about a celebrity across the continent and think it’s just "tabloid noise," this story hits closer to home than we’d like to admit.

The Story: A High-Profile Wake-Up Call

Britney was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol after her black BMW was seen "driving erratically at a high rate of speed." She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.

Her representative issued a statement calling the incident "inexcusable." And that is the key word. Whether you are a multi-platinum superstar or someone driving a beat-up Ford down the 103, the risks and the excuses remain exactly the same.

The Reality in Lunenburg County

We don't need a Hollywood headline to know that impaired driving is a local battle. The RCMP just released a sobering post on Facebook about DUI here including an arrest on Victoria Road in Lunenburg and Bridgewater police are constantly on the lookout for signs of impairment to keep the streets safe.

In Nova Scotia, we lose an average of 22 people every year to alcohol-related collisions. These aren't just statistics; they are neighbors, friends, and family members. When someone "pours one too many" at a local spot and thinks they're "good to drive" back to Mahone Bay, they aren't just risking their license, they are gambling with everyone’s life on the road.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Talking About Britney

You might ask why an independent rock station is weighing in on a pop star’s legal troubles.

The "No Excuses" Policy: At 107.9 Go Rock, we lean into the "Work-Hard/Play-Hard" lifestyle. Part of that grit is having the character to make the right call. There is no amount of "celebrity" or "bad day" that makes putting others at risk acceptable.

Authentic Content: We don't just yap around generic music. We engage with the topics you are talking about, like the Britney Spears arrest, to bring the conversation back to what matters for the South Shore.

Britney’s team says she is "emotional and regretful." We hope she gets the help she needs. Let this be a reminder for all of us heading out this weekend: The road doesn't care who you are. Keep your head on straight, look out for your buddies, and if you’ve been drinking, call a cab or a friend. Let's keep Lunenburg County safe.

Cold Load & Burnt Wires: Why Lunenburg’s Grid is Hanging by a Wire

If you spent the mornings of March 2 and 3 sitting in the dark in New Town or 1st Peninsula, you aren’t alone. The Town of Lunenburg recently released an update regarding the widespread outages that left residents and businesses shivering, and the details confirm what many of us have suspected: The Town of Lunenburg owned electric grid is struggling to keep up with the Nova Scotia winter.

The Anatomy of a Failure

According to the Town’s report, the trouble started around 6:50 am on March 2 when a "drastic drop in temperature" caused a wire to literally burn out on the overhead infrastructure near the substation. While crews prioritized the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital and the Wastewater Treatment plant, many residential areas were left waiting until 11:30 am for the lights to come back on.

But the real kicker was the "Victoria Rd/Bridgewater Rd" feeder outage at 9:30 am. This hit our local commercial businesses hard. The utility blamed something called "Cold Load Pickup". Basically, when the power goes out in freezing weather, every heater and motor in town tries to kick on at the exact same second when the juice returns. This creates a massive surge that can fry distribution equipment and knock the whole grid back to "square one".

The Real-World Cost:

This isn't just an inconvenience; it’s a tax on our local economy. We recently heard a story from our own accountant who had to go out and spend $600 on portable power packs just to keep their computers running and ensure their clients' taxes were filed on time. When a local professional has to drop six hundred bucks just to guarantee they can work through the morning, you know the "infrastructure" is failing the people it’s supposed to serve.

A $15 Million Reality Check

The Town has admitted that infrastructure upgrades are now a "priority". In fact, Council has pre-approved a $15 million+ capital plan over the next five years just to try and provide reliable service. While it's good that help is on the way, it highlights just how fragile our current system has become.

Why 107.9 Go Rock is Your "Power Outage Partner"

You might wonder why a rock station is diving deep into electrical feeder reports. It’s because at 107.9 Go Rock, we understand that reliability is everything, whether it's the power in your home or the information on your radio.

Independent Energy: Just as the Town is realizing they need to invest in their own infrastructure to serve the community, we’ve invested in being an independent, locally owned station.

When the grid fails and the "flickering lights" start up again, your radio is often the only thing still talking to you. We are the "Grit" that keeps going when the infrastructure doesn't.

Stay warm, keep your power packs charged, and keep it tuned to the only station that stays on when the town goes dark.

When news like this hits a community of our size, it doesn’t just stay in the headlines; it sits at the kitchen table with us.

There are days when being a "local" station feels like a celebration, and then there are days like today.

As many of you have heard on GO Rock, the search for 21-year-old Finn McDormand has come to a tragic end. After being reported missing on Tuesday, Bridgewater Police confirmed that their K9 and drone units located Finn's remains in a wooded area near Forest Hill Road.

21 isn’t just an age; it’s a face we recognize from the LCLC, a former classmate of our kids, or a regular at the local shops. When a young life is cut short, it leaves a "quiet" in the air that you can feel up and down the LaHave River.

Right now, the investigation has been classified as suspicious, and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is working to find answers. But while the authorities look for the how, our community is left grappling with the why.

Why We Talk About the Hard Stuff

You might wonder why 107.9 Go Rock, a station known for loud music and high energy, is pausing to talk about such a somber moment.

The answer is simple: Because we live here too.

Where Do We Go From Here?

In the coming days, there will be speculation and searches for answers. Our request to the Go Rock family is simple: Support the McDormands. Small towns are at their best when we circle the wagons around those who are hurting.

We’re going to keep the music playing, but today, every song carries a little more weight. We are proud to be your independent voice, and we are proud to stand with Bridgewater.

The $799 Breakthrough: Why Everyone in Lunenburg County is Talking About the "MacBook Neo"

If you’ve noticed a sudden surge in tech chatter at the cafes in Mahone Bay or seen "MacBook Neo" trending on your local feed this morning (March 4, 2026), there’s a massive reason for it. Apple just dropped what many are calling the "Chromebook Killer," and it’s a game-changer for anyone on the South Shore looking for a high-end experience on a "Blue-Collar" budget.

The "Neo" Factor: What’s the Big Deal?

For years, getting into a new MacBook in Canada meant dropping at least $1,300. But today, Apple officially unveiled the MacBook Neo with a starting price of just $799 CAD (and as low as $679 CAD for students at NSCC or local high schools).

Here is why it’s sparking so much interest today:

The iPhone Brain: For the first time, Apple has put an iPhone chip—the A18 Pro—inside a laptop. It’s fanless, completely silent, and delivers a staggering 16 hours of battery life

Durable & Colorful: It features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display and a durable aluminum design that comes in four fresh colors: Silver, Indigo, Blush, and Citrus.

AI Ready: Despite the price, it’s built to handle "Apple Intelligence" tasks—like summarizing your notes or editing photos—up to three times faster than competing budget Windows laptops.

The Upgrade: While the base model starts at $799 CAD (256GB), you can step up to the 512GB model for $999 CAD, which also adds Touch ID for easier logins.

Why the South Shore is Searching

In Lunenburg County, we value two things above all else: Reliability and Value. Whether you’re a student in Bridgewater needing a machine that lasts all day in class, or a small business owner in Lunenburg looking to modernize your shop without breaking the bank, the MacBook Neo hits that "sweet spot" of quality at a price that makes sense for Nova Scotians.

You might be wondering: “Why is my favorite rock station talking about laptops?”

It’s because at 107.9 Go Rock, our mission is to provide the "Soundtrack of the Grind." Just like the MacBook Neo is designed to be a reliable, no-nonsense tool for your daily life, we strive to be your most reliable source of local energy and information.

Accessibility Matters: We are the only independent station in the county because we believe local voices shouldn't be locked behind corporate paywalls. Just as Apple is making their tech more accessible with the Neo, we keep our content accessible and focused on you.

The Modern South Shore: Devices like the MacBook Neo are how you stay connected to our live broadcast while you're working in the shop, studying at the library.

Technology changes fast, but the need for a trusted, local perspective never does. Whether you’re rocking a brand new $799 Neo or a 20-year-old truck radio, we’re here to keep the South Shore connected.

Stay smart, stay gritty, and keep it tuned to 107.9 Go Rock.

If your mailbox in Bridgewater or Mahone Bay is starting to overflow with brown envelopes and T4 slips, you aren't alone. Tax season has officially kicked off, and as of this week in March 2026, the CRA is the number one trending topic across Lunenburg County.

But between the new digital filing rules and the rising cost of living, there's a lot of "noise" out there. At 107.9 Go Rock, we’re cutting through the paperwork to tell you what actually matters for your wallet.

The "CRA" Red Flags: Don’t Get Hooked

Police have issued a fresh warning about a massive spike in CRA impersonation scams targeting the 902 area code.

Here is the grit: The real CRA will never send you a text message with a link to "claim your refund" or ask for an e-transfer. If you get a suspicious call threatening arrest or demanding gift cards while you're driving down the 103, hang up. It’s a fake. The real agency communicates through the secure "My Account" portal, which, as of last month, now requires mandatory backup multi-factor authentication.

Local Wins: More Money in Your Pocket?

The big news for our younger listeners and tradespeople is the More Opportunity for Skilled Trades and Occupations (MOST) tax refund. If you are under 30 and working in the trades here in the County, you can apply starting March 16 to get the provincial income tax back on your first $50,000 of income.

Additionally, Nova Scotia’s 2026-27 budget (just introduced last week) is continuing to index tax brackets to inflation. This means "bracket creep" won’t eat your hard-earned raises as quickly as it used to.

Why Your Fill-Up Is Going To Cost More! The Global Conflict Hitting the South Shore

While we’re used to the usual spring price creep, this isn't just "seasonal." This spike is tied directly to the escalating situation in Iran and the uncertainty gripping the global energy market this week.

The Breakdown: What’s Happening in Iran?
Following the joint military strikes over the weekend, the situation in Iran has moved from tension to full-scale volatility. The primary concern for us here in Lunenburg County isn't the distance, it's the geography.

Roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran. When tankers are deterred from entering that waterway due to conflict, the global supply of oil shrinks instantly. Even though we produce our own oil in Canada, the price we pay at the pump in Bridgewater is set on that same global market. When the world panics about Iran, we pay for it at the pump.

The Real Cost for the South Shore
For those of us commuting from New Germany to Bridgewater or hauling gear down the 103 in a pickup, a 9-cent jump means an extra $5 to $8 every time you fill up. Over a month, that’s a couple of cases of beer or a nice meal out at a local spot in Mahone Bay gone just to keep the wheels turning.

At 107.9 Go Rock, we aren't just here to play music; we are here to be your "Dashboard Advocate." While the corporate stations might give you a 10-second blurb, we live on these roads with you.

This is why our content focuses on YOU!

As the only locally owned station in the county, we don't answer to a head office in New Brunswick. We answer to you. Our job is to cut through the noise and explain how something on the other side of the world affects your bank account.

We know you work hard for your paycheck. This isn't just "international news". It’s a direct tax on your workday. Whether you’re heading to the woods, the wharf, or the office, we’ll be keeping you updated on the air and online.

Stay gritty, stay fueled, and keep it tuned to the only independent radio station in Lunenburg County! 107.9 GO Rock.
